Rachel's ChallengeOur students will be participating in Rachel’s Challenge on Tuesday, October 11th. We will have two student presentations during the school day: one for 7th and 8th graders, who will attend together, and a modified presentation for 6th graders. Families that do not want their student(s) to attend the presentation should complete the Rachel's Challenge Opt-Out Form. Students that would like to participate in a Friends of Rachel Club are asked to complete the WJMS Friends of Rachel Club signup form.

A summary of reminders in recent issues:

Any student medication, including over-the-counter medications, should be checked in with our school health room along with a completed Medication Agreement. Updated immunization records may also be checked in with the health room if anything has changed since the last time a student's records were updated with their school.

More information about the math curriculum our school uses is in the district handout Information for Families: Illustrative Mathematics 6-12.

We thank the many donors whose contributions have funded classroom projects posted by individual teachers from our school on DonorsChoose.

Outdoor Lab Information

Our sixth grade students will be going to Outdoor Lab the week of December 12th. Outdoor Lab is an overnight, full week of science-based learning aligned to our sixth grade curriculum.  Students earn a grade for their work, make new connections with peers, and have a blast! More information will be available in a parent meeting coming up in October.

Students attend either Mount Evans or Windy Peak depending on their Advise teacher. We will be announcing where students will be going soon!

In the meantime, check out the Outdoor Lab website and the Parent Packet. The Outdoor Lab Foundation offers Outdoor Lab Gear for sale. Advance orders placed through December 4 will be delivered to our school in time to accompany your student to Outdoor Lab. Please email Mrs. Buffington or Ms. Lauer, our Outdoor Lab Coordinators, with any questions.

Items we are seeking donations of for Outdoor lab include:

A decorated "tree cookie" name tagTree cookies - about 250 slices of tree branches that are 5-6 inches in diameter and up to an inch thick. They are used as name tags during Outdoor Lab, so they will need a small hole drilled near the edge. We would also appreciate it if they were sanded smooth, so we can draw on them. Please get in touch with Mrs. Buffington if you are interested.

Card games - we are also looking for donations of Uno, playing cards, chess sets, and other middle-school-appropriate card games.

Gifted and Talented Program News

We have a new Gifted and Talented Social-Emotional Learning Counselor at our school this year, Bailey Craig. Please read her Meet the Counselor page to learn more about Miss Bailey.

The 2022-2023 GT Center testing application is open through 4 pm on October 14, and testing will take place on Saturday, October 15 or Saturday, October 29. More information on the Gifted Center Process and the application are available on the district's Gifted & Talented page.
